90 Days of BV Portföy Gaming and Technology Variable Fund

A Venture Capital Perspective on a Rising Global Trend: The Gaming Industry
BV Portföy Gaming and Technology Variable Fund holds the unique distinction of being Turkey’s first and only thematic mutual fund to invest at least 80% of its portfolio in domestic and international gaming and technology companies. It offers investors an opportunity to benefit from the returns of the gaming industry, which has become a prominent global trend.
With rapidly evolving technology, smartphones and tablets have become indispensable parts of our lives—so much so that gaming consoles now fit in our pockets. Every day, millions of users spend part of their free time playing games.
Accelerated by artificial intelligence, virtual reality, blockchain, and other cutting-edge technologies, the gaming sector continues to grow and attract new investors. Today, it’s not only players and developers that participate—investors are now also seeking their share in this booming industry.
As the only fund in Turkey that invests a minimum of 80% in innovative and leading domestic and international gaming and technology companies, BV Portföy Gaming and Technology Variable Fund allows investors to adopt a venture capital vision and gain exposure to today’s and tomorrow’s digital world.
Why Choose the BV Portföy Gaming and Technology Variable Fund?
This fund offers an innovative alternative to traditional investment strategies, focusing on technology products that shape the future.
It leverages Boğaziçi Ventures’ deep expertise in gaming and new technologies to help investors benefit from the expanding gaming and technology markets. The fund targets innovative, value-generating digital gaming and technology ventures globally, including mobile, console, and PC game developers, as well as ecosystem participants within the gaming industry.
Managed according to venture capital investment principles, the fund combines Boğaziçi Ventures’ experience in venture capital fund management with its domain expertise in gaming and technology.
How Did the First 90 Days Go?
Launched on March 1, 2023, the fund has attracted strong interest from investors of various profiles since day one.
Every step of the investment process has been taken with a venture capital mindset. Publicly traded domestic and international companies in the gaming and tech sectors were rigorously evaluated using both financial metrics and strategic indicators.
With Boğaziçi Ventures' guidance, a carefully curated investment universe was developed, and a robust portfolio was built by selecting the most promising companies.
The fund took significant positions in AMD (AMD:US), NVIDIA (NVDA:US), and Micron Technology (MU:US), anticipating that increased investments in AI and gaming technologies would drive up processor demand. NVIDIA’s strong first-quarter earnings and raised sales forecasts for 2023/2024 pushed its market cap over $1 trillion, greatly benefiting the fund.
Another key holding, Microsoft (MSFT:US), made headlines with its $69 billion bid to acquire Activision Blizzard (ATVI:US)—the world’s largest gaming company. Despite the UK Competition Authority not yet approving the deal, positive news is expected to benefit both companies’ stock performance. Furthermore, the much-anticipated game Diablo IV, the sequel to the 30-million-download hit Diablo III, is set to launch in early June. Enthusiastic beta reviews suggest strong sales are expected in its opening week.
Following investor meetings, the fund secured investments from individuals, pension funds, mutual funds, and holding companies, both in Turkey and abroad—exceeding 200 investors in just 90 days.
Investors with accounts at brokerage firms or banks can include the fund in their portfolios via TEFAS under its variable fund structure. Current holdings, investor count, and detailed fund info are accessible through TEFAS.

Why Invest in Thematic Funds?
Thematic funds allow investors to focus on specific investment themes—such as technology, autonomous vehicles, renewable energy, or rare minerals—providing access to emerging global trends with strong return potential.
They’re an excellent choice for investors who may lack in-depth knowledge or time to analyze these themes individually.
Key advantages of thematic investing:
- Focus: Enables targeted investments aligned with specific sectors or future-forward themes.
- Opportunity: Managed by professionals with deep domain expertise, thematic funds help capture unique market opportunities.
- Diversification: Even within a single theme, investors gain exposure to a variety of companies, helping to reduce risk while maintaining thematic alignment.
